How to prepare your skin for sun and summer

It’s finally getting warmer again and the sun can be seen more often in the sky! Most people are very happy about this change after the long winter. However, your skin may see things differently. The UV rays and the unaccustomed warmth can irritate and even damage your skin. That’s why it’s so important to prepare your skin well for the sun. You can find out how to do this here.

Tip 1: Use sun cream

Don’t need sunscreen in spring yet? No way! This idea is widespread, but it is a misconception. For one thing, the skin is not yet accustomed to the sun and can get sunburned much more easily by UV radiation. Secondly, some UV radiation is independent of the weather and the season. You should therefore protect your skin from UV rays every day with a good sun cream. The lighter and more sensitive your skin is, the higher the sun protection factor should be.

Tip 2: Keep the skin hydrated

Sunlight and heat can easily dry out the skin. So make sure you keep it well moisturized! There are two ways to do this, both of which you should use:

  • Drink enough water to plump up your skin from the inside and keep it hydrated! Your whole body will also benefit from this.

  • Use skin care products that moisturize the skin and provide it with valuable oils! Good creams, lotions or skin oils keep the skin hydrated and prevent it from drying out.

Tip 3: Nutrients for the skin

Healthy skin that is well supplied with all the important nutrients can cope much better with UV rays and heat. Antioxidants are particularly important to combat free radicals in the skin and prevent cell damage. Vitamin E helps to protect the cells from oxidative stress.

Tip 4: Get used to the sun slowly

When the sun finally shines, you want to go outside. However, this can damage the skin. It should be acclimatized to the sun in small steps. So, especially in spring, make sure you don’t expose your skin to UV rays for too long! Avoid the midday sun and start with short sunbathing sessions that you gradually increase.

Pay attention to your skin reaction! If your skin becomes red or irritated, it’s time to get out of the sun! Use after-sun products to soothe and moisturize your skin! Our skin care spray and skin care oil are also ideal for this.

Tip 5: A scrub for the start of summer

In winter, your skin was hidden under clothing most of the time and exposed to various irritations. This is now changing and it is feeling the air and sun again. That’s why it could do with a revamp now. To prepare for summer, a gentle exfoliation can be a good start. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells from the skin’s surface. It can also support cell renewal and noticeably improve skin texture, making skin appear smoother, more even and radiant. You can make your own scrub, for example with sugar or salt, which you add to good skin oil. Or you can use a ready-made exfoliating product. However, be aware that chemical peels and enzyme peels can make the skin more sensitive to the sun. So don’t wait too long before exfoliating and make sure you use good sun protection afterwards.
