Good blood clotting*: More important than you might think

When we injure ourselves, an important protective function of the body kicks in immediately. The wound closes again very quickly so that the injury does not bleed any further and the body can repair the damage. This effect is made possible by blood clotting and is vital. We explain what you can do to ensure good blood clotting.

Why is good blood clotting so important?

If a blood vessel is affected by an injury, the wound will bleed. Blood clotting is used to stop the blood flow and close the wound. Coagulation means that the blood thickens in a short time and forms a kind of plug. This happens very quickly with so-called primary hemostasis. Once the bleeding has stopped, the body switches to secondary hemostasis, which forms a firm seal in and on the wound.

How can blood coagulation be measured?

Blood coagulation is measured in particular if a person bleeds for a conspicuously long time after an injury. It is also routinely checked before operations to prevent unexpectedly heavy bleeding. It is also important to measure coagulation in the case of liver disease, because the liver is where the so-called coagulation factors are produced. The test is carried out with a blood test in the laboratory. The result of this test is the coagulation status.

Among other things, the Quick value is measured, usually in the form of the internationally comparable INR value. If the INR is too high, the Quick value is too low and vice versa. The INR value is normally between 0.8 and 1.2. 70 to 125% are considered normal values for the Quick value.

The blood platelets (the so-called thrombocytes) can also be measured. The lower the platelet count, the worse the blood clotting.

How can calcium and vitamin K contribute to normal blood clotting?

To supplement your diet sensibly, you can also take calcium and vitamin K in the form of high-quality food supplements. For example, vitamin K can contribute to normal blood clotting. If you have a vitamin K deficiency, a change in diet may be useful. Vitamin K is found in spinach, cabbage, sauerkraut, wholegrain products and offal, among other things. Nutritional support for blood clotting through vitamin K can also be useful if you have a calcium deficiency. Foods rich in calcium include dairy products and green vegetables. In addition to our SILICIUM LIQIUD, we also recommend the easy-to-take SILICIUM PLUS and SILICIUM PRIME capsules. LIQUID and PRIME contain vitamin K, which contributes to normal blood clotting.

SILICIUM PLUS is enriched with calcium. Calcium also contributes to normal blood clotting.

You can do even more with SILICIUM PRIME. In addition to calcium and magnesium, it also contains vitamin D and vitamin K2. Vitamin K2 supports normal blood clotting. And vitamin D contributes to the normal absorption and utilization of calcium and thus to a normal calcium level in the blood.
