SILICON IN SCIENCE

Silicon in science

By the way: Silicon is called “silicon” in English. The “Silicon Valley” therefore takes its name from silicon rich rocks. Many people mistakenly translate “silicone” as “silicon”, which can lead to misunderstandings. You know better now.

Unfortunately, the subject of silicon has long received little attention from the scientific community. As a result, many questions have not yet been fully clarified. Although there are a lot of very promising studies, there is still a need for research in many areas. That is why we keep a close eye on developments in scientific research and also actively participate in research ourselves. For example, we have developed the unique SAM technology with a top-class team of chemists, biologists, doctors, alternative practitioners and engineers. SAM stands for Surface-Activated-Minerals, i.e. surface-activated minerals. This breaks down silicon and activates the surface so that bioavailability is demonstrably increased considerably.

The main application of silicon in the pharmaceutical industry has so far been as an important excipient. It is an ingredient in many tablets, capsules, ointments and gels. It is also used as an anti-caking agent in food. If you read the designation E551 on a food, you know that silicon is used here. However, these are forms that the body can hardly absorb and utilize.

Did you know, for example,

that silicon has been used to make glass for thousands of years?
that modern solar systems and computer microchips are based on silicon?
that carbon, the building block of all life, is very similar to silicon (this fact has inspired many science fiction writers to dream up silicon-based life forms)?
that many (semi-)precious stones consist largely of silicon?
that there are creatures that use silicon to build a stable exoskeleton (they are called rotifers or radiolarians and form fascinating shapes)?

The right form of silicon is crucial!

Fat-soluble formulations of silicon (e.g. in combination with MCT oil) obviously have advantages over water-soluble formulations. This was shown in a study (ex Bergna 2006 and literature cited there). The same study describes a fixation of bacteria and an affinity to many bacterial strains. Further applications have been derived and investigated.
