What ensures a healthy energy metabolism?

Your body’s energy metabolism is important for your physical and mental performance. From breathing to learning to competitive sport, all actions consume energy that the body has to provide in advance. When the energy metabolism works well, we are fit and powerful. We explain how energy metabolism works and how you can support it.

Why is a functioning energy metabolism so important?

Energy metabolism is part of the general metabolism of living organisms. Metabolism refers to all biochemical processes in the cells in which substances are broken down, converted and rebuilt. In the process, various substances are made available that provide the body and brain with energy. In addition, all kinds of substances are produced that ensure the sensible distribution and transportation of energy sources.

The metabolism is a highly complex system with many individual cycles that ideally interact perfectly. If everything functions optimally, the body has enough energy available at all times. Then we can concentrate for long periods and solve difficult problems, we are mentally in balance and can also cope with physical activities without major problems.

How does the energy metabolism work?

The energy we need every day comes primarily from the macronutrients in food: fats, carbohydrates and proteins. During digestion, these energy sources are broken down into the individual nutrients. What cannot be used directly is converted.

For example, amino acids are formed from proteins, fatty acids and glycerine from dietary fats and various sugar molecules from carbohydrates. In this way, energy is converted.

Some of the energy obtained in this way is immediately used up again, for example for the heartbeat, breathing, digestion or regulating body temperature. These tasks are called resting energy or basal metabolic rate. Even during sleep, the body needs energy for these tasks without interruption. Physical activities (for example at work or during sport) require additional energy. So that the energy in the muscles can be used,

it is stored in every cell of the body in the form of the energy carrier adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Because the quantities in the cells are very small, constant ATP production is part of the energy metabolism.

At rest or during moderate physical activity, energy is produced from ATP with oxygen. This is known as aerobic metabolism. During competitive sport or other intensive physical exertion, the energy metabolism switches to anaerobic mode. It then works without oxygen and can therefore produce more energy in a short time. However, this load cannot be maintained for long.

Energy that cannot be used immediately is stored in the body.

There are various forms of these energy storage systems

A particularly large amount of energy is stored in the fat stores in the form of depot fat.
Carbohydrate stores are found in the muscles and liver.
The body does not have its own protein stores, as these are less necessary for energy production. Proteins are primarily needed to build the body's own structures. As proteins cannot be stored, a regular supply through food is particularly important.

What can damage the energy metabolism?

The energy metabolism can be disturbed by various causes:

Stress
free radicals
too little sleep
Too little exercise and sport
an unbalanced diet and a resulting deficiency of certain nutrients

Which substances support the metabolism?

In addition to macronutrients, many different vitamins, minerals and trace elements are involved in energy metabolism.
The following nutrients, for example, contribute to normal energy metabolism:

Calcium
Magnesium
Vitamin C
Vitamin B6
Vitamin B3
How can I consume these substances?

A balanced, protein-rich diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables is a very good basis for your energy metabolism. If your diet doesn’t always work perfectly or you are under special physiological circumstances and want to do more, you can also take high-quality nutritional supplements. The SILICIUM PLUS and SILICIUM PRIME capsules from the Dr. Rilling range are particularly suitable. They contain magnesium and calcium, substances that can specifically support your energy metabolism:

The vegan SILICIUM PLUS caps ules contain calcium and magnesium. Both minerals contribute to normal energy metabolism.
The vegetarian SILICIUM PRIME caps ules also contain calcium and magnesium.

Pay enough attention to your energy metabolism with the minerals calcium and magnesium and provide it with enough good substances so that you can use your full potential!
