Warm rays of sunshine simply feel good. They put you in a good mood, help you relax and, for many, are simply part of a beautiful day. At the same time, however, there is the effect of the sun on the skin: UV radiation can contribute to a premature loss of youthful radiance in the skin.

Does this mean that we should avoid the sun to protect our skin? No! You don’t have to choose between “enjoying the sun” and “protecting your skin”. The aim is to consciously deal with both and make sensible decisions. Then you can enjoy the light without worrying.

  • Optical skin changes: UV radiation can contribute to the skin losing its youthful radiance earlier and lines becoming visible more quickly.
  • UVA vs. UVB: While UVB rays are mainly responsible for sun-induced redness, UVA rays reach deeper layers and challenge the appearance all year round.

Why does the skin appear aged by the sun?

The sun’s UV light can trigger processes in the skin that pose a particular challenge to an even appearance. This can contribute to the skin losing its youthful radiance and premature lines – also known as light-induced skin changes – becoming visible earlier.

Important to know: UV light consists of two different rays: UVA and UVB rays. UVB rays are significantly involved in the development of intense, sun-induced redness. They are particularly active on hot, sunny days. UVA rays, on the other hand, are active all year round and in all weathers. These rays also reach deeper layers of the skin and can trigger challenging processes there. UVA rays are therefore particularly important when it comes to anti-ageing, and not just in summer.

Why is a good skincare routine so important for radiant skin?

Step by step: What does a good sun protection skincare routine look like?

Cream, serum, sunscreen, make-up… In which order should you apply these products? Here you will find clear step-by-step instructions for your skincare routine:

  1. First of all, a gentle but thorough cleansing removes dirt, sweat, make-up residue and dead skin cells.
  2. Optional: After cleansing your skin, you can use a tonic to remove any remaining dirt and balance the skin’s pH value.
  3. Optional: If you want to use a serum with a high active ingredient content, now is the right time.
