Camping packing list:
What do you really need?

Camping vacations in a caravan are the dream of many people. You always have your mobile home with all the essentials with you and enjoy privacy, nature and mobility at the same time. Dreamlike!

But what do you actually need when on vacation in a camper van? Which items are essential and which can stay at home?

Find out in this ultimate packing list for camping in a caravan!

The most important things at a glance: Packing list for camping in a caravan

  • Freedom through preparation: A successful vacation in a caravan is based on well thought-out planning so that no important helpers are missing on site.
  • Living and sleeping: the right furnishings create your own personal oasis of well-being in the great outdoors.
  • Safety and first-aid kit: Technical essentials, tools and a well-stocked first-aid kit provide quick support for small challenges in everyday camping life.
  • Care on the go: practical companions like the QNUPI roll-on cool and soothe the skin after exploring the fresh air with the power of mint and oregano oil.
  • Documents to hand: All important papers and insurance certificates for people, vehicles and pets should be stored in an orderly and watertight manner.

What do you need for electricity, water and a camping pitch?

Electricity and water are available on most pitches. However, you should have a few things with you so that you can make good use of them:

  • A CEE adapter cable (camping plug to Schuko), an extension cable of at least 25 meters and a multiple socket are essential.
  • A power bank, a 12V adapter for driving and possibly a string of LED lights for the awning are also useful. Also think about chargers for smartphones and the like!
  • For the water supply, you will need a food-safe drinking water hose and a water canister as a reserve.
  • Wedge pads are also helpful to ensure that the caravan is level. You can insert a small spirit level or use a corresponding app on your smartphone to check the correct position.

What should you take with you for sleeping and living when camping?

The caravan has beds, but what’s on them is up to you:

  • Depending on the season and your preferences, take light travel blankets or sleeping bags with you!
  • Think about pillows too! Inflatable camping pillows save space, but should be tested beforehand so that you can sleep well on them.
  • When camping with children, a thin sleeping mat or air mattress can be useful as additional padding or for staying outdoors.
  • For the outdoor area, you should take camping chairs and a sturdy folding table with you.
  • An awning, awning or sun awning are also important for sunny days.
  • A doormat or outdoor rug keeps dirt out and makes the seating area more comfortable.

What belongs in the camping kitchen?

Cooking in a caravan works surprisingly well if you have the necessary basics in your luggage. These kitchen utensils should definitely be on your packing list for camping:

  • Compact camping utensils (pots, pans, plates and mugs) and cutlery for everyone
  • a good chef’s knife and a chopping board
  • Corkscrew and can opener
  • Spices in small screw-top jars
  • Sufficient quantities of bin liners
  • Aluminum foil, cling film and/or freezer bags

Clothing and co: What do you really need when camping?

The clothing and personal equipment you need depends on many factors, such as the duration of your trip, your preferences and the time of year. However, a few things are important for every camping vacation and should definitely be on your packing list:

  • Don’t forget the towels! Microfiber towels are particularly practical. They take up little space, are light and dry quickly.
  • Flip-flops or bathing shoes are easily forgotten, but are virtually indispensable when camping. They not only come in handy in the shower cubicles at the campsite, but are also helpful on stony riverbanks or hot sandy beaches.

When it comes to cosmetics, travel sizes save storage space and are perfectly adequate for short trips.

What belongs in the travel and camping first-aid kit?

Insect bites, minor wounds, sun-stressed skin or a nervous stomach … You should be prepared for such minor incidents.

Your basic first-aid kit should include:

  • Plasters in various sizes
  • Sterile wound dressings
  • Tick tweezers or card
  • Painkillers
  • Diarrhea and stomach remedies
  • Sun cream
  • After-sun lotion
  • Insect repellent
  • regularly taken medication
